Dangdut is getting ready to take America’s music scene by storm. What is Dangdut? Dangdut is Indonesia's popular folk music genre that mixes Indian, Arab, Malay and Portuguese rhythms with other influences ranging from Rock, Latin, House, Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B, and even Classical Music. Dangdut revolution started in Indonesia in the 1970s with acts such as Rhoma Irama and Elvy Sukaesih. And now Dangdut is being reborn as an American music genre! For the first time in the history of Dangdut music, Dangdut in America album features an American recording artist (Arreal Tilghman) singing dangdut music created by Indonesian composers.
In September 2008, the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) recognized Arreal Tilghman as the 1st American Dangdut recording artist. Rissa Asnan received MURI disctinction for being the 1st producer and promoter of Dangdut music in the United States. Arreal has already generated extensive press and television coverage in Indonesia where the public has overwhelmingly embraced the American Dangdut singer. We hope you enjoy the music on this album – the first-ever Dangdut album produced and released in the United States!
