Description

In 2006, NSR Productions and Indosiar television collaborated to produce a reality television show that followed four finalists from the 2005 Akademi Fantasi Indosiar (AFI) talent competition as they traveled throughout the northeast region of the United States.

AFI is an television talent search that combines pop music talent contest with viewer voting and reality show elements. The concept for AFI show comes from Star Academy – a television show format created by Endemol and produced in over 50 countries worldwide. The finalists of AFI talent contest are typically ordinary Indonesian men and women, who are in their early 20s. These young performers are very popular with Indonesian television audience, especially in the younger demographics.

Filming of the show took place over a period of 10 days, starting on July 6, 2006 (when Indosiar crew landed at JFK) and ending on July 16 (when they departed from DULLES). Filming was done in various locations around New York, Philadelphia, Newark, Annapolis and Washington. Filmed activities included visiting American cultural landmarks (Ground Zero, White House, National Monument, Grand Central Terminal), performing American past-time activities (such as attending a Phillies baseball game and visiting a harley davidson motorcycle party), volunteering for American non-profit organizations (the Habitat for Humanity, the Stonegates nursing home and the Emmanuel Soup Kitchen), and visiting American businesses (e.g. a Harley Davidson dealership, a micro-brewery, and a farm).

Along their trip, the Indonesian artists met interesting American and Indonesian people who live and work at the various locations that were being filmed. The entertainment part of the show was a public concert held at the Ernst Theater in Annandale, Virginia on July 15, 2006. The show was titled “Dreams come true” because visiting the United States is of great interest to many Indonesians. In fact, the idea behind this show was to combine the popularity of AFI artists with the interest that ordinary Indonesians have about culture, study and travel in the United States. The AFI artists who came to United States to star and film the show were:
